So, I'm heading to Moab, UT for a week of off-road fun. The truck is at 82K miles. I just flushed the trans, I will drain and fill the front/rear diffs and t-case this week, and I put in some fresh engine oil. Any other major mechanicals I should inspect before hitting the road? I'll take a quick peak at brake fluid and power steering fluid level. I also just put on new Hankook Dynapro ATM tires.
Any good equipment to bring with on the trip? I'll be with a group that has tow straps and winches.
We'll be camping so I'll have my essential camping gear. I'm also bringing a few guns to get in some target practice out in the desert.
Here's a quick list I just typed up. I'm sure it will grow as I think of things.
Guns/ammo
GoPro -chrger
Laptop -charger
Hat
Sunblock
Tent fan
Sleeping bag and pad Pillow
Towel
Extra key
Handheld Radios
Extra shoes boots
Tool box
Cooler Camping chair
Fire cooking stick Plates, utensils, paper towels

HandHeld radio? Meaning CB? or 2-way? I would recommend a CB. WATER WATER WATER (Its not as hot as summer, but quite warmer than Here in Minnesota. Tire Plugging Kit. (NOT FIX A FLAT canned crap) I would have at least your own 20K pull strap (bad recovery and you mess up their strap, you owe them one) use your own. They are not that expensive Inspect your break pads and rotors. Gloves (in case you need to do a recovery) Sucks getting steel cable shards in your hand!
Small Battery for a back up for your phone

Good stuff, thanks!
All I drink, for the most part is water. I can't go much more than an hour or two without it. I'll definitely have a case or two with me out there. We're using hand-held (2-way) radios. As far as I know, no one in our group has CB radios. Would be a fun/useful addition though. I was thinking about getting my own strap. It'll be a good addition to keep in the truck during the winter too. Tire patch kit is also a good one to keep handy. With the several toyotas going I'm sure we'll have plenty of spare tires too.
I just had the brakes inspected when my tires were put on about a week and half ago. Plus I just bought this FJ as a Certified Used Toyota 8k ago. I know I should take a peak myself, but they SHOULD be good.
Gloves are in my tool box already, but I'll definitely add them to the list to make sure I don't misplace them and forget. I have a battery pack to charge my phone too. I'll add that to the list!
Good stuff, keep 'em coming if you can think of any more!
Super excited for this trip! It'll be my first trail adventure!

Don't count on a campfire unless you buy wood. About the only firewood you can legally gather is tamarisk but it is pretty poor firewood. And it illegal to transport wood from here or anywhere else, to avoid transporting harmful diseases and insects.
If you want a CB I suggest a Midland 75-822 and a magnetic mount antenna. That way you can remove it from the truck when you don't need it. But if nobody in your group is using CB I'm not sure I'd bother. FRS is fine for short distance trail comms.
When are you heading out? I am taking the Trooper to Moab in about a month.

A tranny cooler wouldn't hurt. I'm going to put one on mine before I get the FJC into wheeling.
