If you are into "overlanding" or "expeditions" or whatever you want to call vehicle-based exploration and camping, you might be interested in the Midwest Overland Society. I am a member (although there is nothing official about membership, we have intentionally kept the group informal), and we have done trips to various places regionally and nationally, including the Colorado mountains, various parts of Minnesota, Lake Nipigon (Canada), Black Hills/Badlands South Dakota, and more.
We have meetings on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. Tomorrow nights meeting is the meeting room at Tuttles in Hopkins at 7 PM. Feel free to show up and see what we are about. This time of year we are mostly planning various trips for 2015.
There is a website forum for the MOS, although you have to register to see it due to spammers. There is a facebook page also.

Lots of trips in planning. Off the top of my head we discussed next weekend in the Two Harbors and north area, the MN 4WD Association convention in Frontenac in late April, Foothills State Forest/Spider Lake weekend in late May, a longer weekend or week in the UP Michigan in July, a long week in the Montana mountains in late August, possibly the Ozarks in October...

Again, How did I miss this post? Not that I could have made the meeting.
Bigswede, Thanks for the info, and I will look for the website, and facebook groups.
