As some of you know, I have another off-road truck, so while I do anticipate transitioning to the FJ for off-road duty at some undetermined time in the future, I am in no hurry to do so.
But I am doing a few things for my FJ as a daily driver. So far I have:
- Changed the grill surround to a white one instead of silver. I'm not usually about form over function, but this change just felt right to me...especially since I drive by my neighbors FJ40 every day and it has a white grill.
- Billet shifter knobs. Nice, though very chilly in the winter.
- Just installed Weathertech window visors to cut down on the wind blast from an open window. I am undecided about this one. I don't like the restriction on visibility for the FJs already bunker-like slit windows. I am tall enough they are fairly close to my line of sight. I may have to see of anybody makes clear ones...TBD
- Getting going on a factory trailer hitch install. The other day I plastidipped the notched bumper piece black, so next up I will actually install the hitch, then worry about the wiring.
- I will black out the rest of the bumper soon.
I have been looking to the future as well. I have begun stockpiling off-road stuff I know I will need, as they come on sale.
- lower shock mount protectors
- PureFJ slider (on order)
- Metaltech offset lower links (on order)
Who knows when I will actually install this stuff...we'll see. If a buyer pops up for my Trooper it could happen soon...or next year.

Put some new tires on yesterday, wanted to go a little more agressive than the boring all season Nexens the dealer put on there. Still stock size, not ready to lift it yet. Got some 265/75r16 Nokian ATs for a ridiculous price on Amazon, $115 apiece. Nokian is a Finnish company, not real well known here but they make great tires. So I exchanged Korean tires for Finnish.
If anybody want a deal on some Nexen Roadian HTX let me know.

Put some black-painted door handles on today, got 'em off of craigslist from a guy who sold his FJC due to a growing family. Install was ridiculously easy once I got the right torx bit, Japanese engineering is amazing.
Oh, and the guy handed me a bunch of other stuff too for free - a couple of front turn signals, a fuel filler door, and a used Magnaflow muffler (18" body) that I will sell cheap if someone wants it.

Decided to remove the old subwoofer as it wasn't really accomplishing much sound-wise, and takes up room. I reused the power wire from the subwoofer and installed a 12V outlet in the passenger compartment. Wasn't really work a picture though...

Installed black mirrors yesterday, so now everything is blacked out except for the roof, grill, and wheels. I am happy with the way it looks, and am done with the visual mods for the foreseeable future.
I'll post a picture one of these days.

Picked up some more parts for the stockpile...lightly used Ricochet engine and tranny skid plates.
All that is really left on my list is a suspension lift kit, but I'm not going to pull the trigger on that until I am actually ready to install it.

Spoke too soon, one of the dangers of surfing the internet is you might actually find a deal too good to pass up. Found a set of Bilstein 6112 coilovers on ebay for $475, they generally go for over $600. As if that wasn't enough, I picked up some Icon 2" rear coils for under $200, thank you Black Friday. Saved about $200 all told.

I maybe looking for heavier springs sometime next spring. With adding my front aluminum bumper with winch, and now rear steel bumper, and my cargo drawers. I am sitting a bit low. Thankfully, I did go upto 285's on my tires....

About the only thing left to buy is the rear shocks... still don't know when I'm going to get around to installing all this stuff though.

Recently installed an Odyssey 34R battery. The old Panasonic was still working, but I don't trust 7 year old batteries. I have been stranded before when a 6 year old battery crapped out on me, late at night, in northern Minnesota. Definitely cranks much faster now.
I also installed a Dirty Parts Alternator Voltage Booster for proper care and feeding of the Odyssey. Went from 14.14 volts to 14.77, as advertised. Nice.

Had a productive July 3rd off, installed a 2" lift on the FJC. Bilstein 6112 front/5100 rear with Icon 2" lift coils for those scoring at home.
I'll get some pics up once I figure out who is going to host them now that Photobucket has hoisted the Jolly Roger.

Over the weekend I got the sliders (Pure, by All Pro) painted with bedliner spray paint, and hung on the FJC. Really need to get some pics up.

Installed Metaltech rear axle links and link mount armor over the weekend.
Also installed a pair of 12V outlets on the center console. Now I have enough outlets for the fridge, CPAP, CB, and nav tablet all at once if needed (don't really need to run the CPAP at the same time as navigating etc., but you get the idea).
Next up: rear window screen kit.
